Miscellaneous Photo Albums

Welcome to "crystal" my home gateway and firewall computer. It is an Intel P-III 866 coppermine running FreeBSD 5.x-Stable. The machine has 256MB of memory and HDs of 120 , 60, and 40 GB of disk space. FreeBSD is the power behind Yahoo and a few other large sites. The daemon (day mon) is called Beastie, which is a way of pronouncing BSD. Apache 2.0.55 (Unix) is the web server that I use. In general, every web page is tested on crystal before it is uploaded to my ISP. Both of the images are links to the Home Sites of those products.

The photographs available on this link don't count against my 10MB limit on my ISP. The connection is limited to 176Kbps, which isn't as fast as my ISP but if you are using a modem, you may not notice. Some of these Photographs may go back many years. This page is just beginning construction and I have 150MB of .bmp's that I am sorting through. I have to add, that since this comment was made, I purchased a Canon Digital Rebel and have taken almost 5 GB of photos. Converting the old film photos to .jpg's and optimizing them for use on the WWW with Adobe's ImageReady takes time. You also make mistakes when you choose the size of an image, i.e., you want it to fit on the screen. So, you develop a process that works almost all of the time. You still have to size the images from digital cameras but the hour is seemed to take to get a really good scanned image is gone. Loading the images onto your computer from a 1 GB Compact Flash card may take 15-20 minutes and you have loaded as many as 282 images. The good part is no dust or lint.
