Seti@Home BOINC is the new Seti project. I joined up and received an ID number that was less than 4000. It didn't work on FreeBSD and so, I didn't switch from Seti Classic to Seti BOINC. After awhile, I just turned Seti off on all of my machines. I think it was in May 2005 that I finally got everything working and started running Seti again. As I write this, I am ranked in 4605th place on Boinc-Seti and 4277th place on Predictor. This results in 6931th place for all of my results. You can see where I currently sit by visiting BOINC Synergy. For a while, I have been rapidly jumping through the slower systems but that will change shortly. You can't jump 9623 places per month forever. Sooner or later, you will move into a region where everyone has as many or more computers running Seti-BOINC than you do. Then, you start to lose positions as more powerful configurations begin to pass you.
Seti is the "Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence" and SetiAtHome is using home computers to do the search. This is a massive project involving over 3,562,925 people around the world. As of 25 February 2002, they had accrued the equivalent of 894184.687 years of computer time. For the current status see Totals. The amazing part is that people and organizations have donated their spare CPU cycles for this project just to see if ET really is out there. My computers have processed 11575 work units (wu's) as of 27 March 2002. I am, as an individual, currently ranked below the total number of wu's ranking for country 140 (See Countries). "Wallis and Futuna Islands" are currently number 140 and they have processed 11576 wu's. Algeria is country #141 and they have processed 11238 wu's. My current ranking is 3363 and I am the only one with this total. This is kind of strange because I have dropped 52 positions, which means there are a number of people out there not doing seti-queuing. My position can vary 10 positions or more during a weeks time. This ranking means that out of the 3.6+ million users doing SetiAtHome, there are 3362 users that have returned more processed data than my computers have processed. Tokelau and Wallis and Futuna Islands came out of no where, so I don't know if I am passing or being passed. I don't pay that much attention to the country positions except when a milestone like 10,000 is coming up. I have passed the 10k milestone and they do not have a new one. I check my position because I find it interesting to see a plug of faster users passing through. This page is only updated occasionally to get it current.
I joined the 5000 club sometime on 7 December 2000. I wasn't on the 5000 club list very long. I moved off of the top end on 10 December 2000. I joined the 10k club on 3 January 2002 at 12:49 pm. I have included these moments on my Seti Project Milestones web page.
